Brooks & Dunn DONE

Country super Duo, Brooks & Dunn have called it quits as singing partners after 20 years of chart topping hits and acclaim.

The duo will release their final album/CD on September 8th, titled "#1s and Then Some."

They begin touring with their final concert tour this week which will billed as "Last Rodeo with Brooks & Dunn."

The twosome has recorded 13 studio albums, sold over 35 million records, and won industry acclaim for their work as a duo for the last two decades. The two insist that the split is not over indifference's, but instead say "It's time, we ran this thing to death."

Their current single release, "Indian Summer" peaked on the national charts and failed to make it into the Top Ten.

Friday 8/1 Highlights

Thanks to all who came out and supported TGIK and the singers on Friday, August 1, at the Watertown American Legion. It helped that their "Queen Of Hearts" game was still not won, and the prize is up to over $130,000, with the winner getting $50, 000.
We had many new singers and our rotation was heavy. Most only got to sing one or two songs throughout the evening. Three guests celebrated their birthdays... Congrats Sandra!!
Stan and Robert are off once again on their way back to sunny Florida for the winter. We will miss them until next summer, but Stan sang his award winning "Cabaret" before heading back.
Other song highlights included; Mark singing "Farewell Party," Jim singing "One Has My Name," Erin singing "Gunpowder & Lead," Doc Pete singing "I Dont Need Your Rocking Chair," Jon singing "Wave On Wave," Pat singing "Show Me The Way," Adam singing "Purple Rain," Maggie singing "Before He Cheats," Jose singing "I'm Yours," and Ginny singing "Who's Cheatin' Who."
It was a wild night and lots of fun. Of course the whole room got up to dance to "Cupid Shuffle," which is now a crowd favorite. Hope to see everyone August 14th at the VFW and the 15th back at the American Legion.

Karaoke Lyric of the Week

Karaoke Lyric of the Week
"Unanswered Prayers"
As Performed by Garth Brooks
Just the other night at a hometown football game
My wife and I ran into my old high school flame
And as I introduced them the past came back to me
And I couldn't help but think of the way things used to be
She was the one that I'd wanted for all times
And each night I'd spend prayin' that God would make her mine
And if he'd only grant me this wish I wished back then
I'd never ask for anything again
Sometimes I thank God for unanswered prayers
Remember when you're talkin' to the man upstairs
That just because he doesn't answer doesn't mean he don't care
Some of God's greatest gifts are unanswered prayers
She wasn't quite the angel that I remembered in my dreams
And I could tell that time had changed me In her eyes too it seemed
We tried to talk about the old days
There wasn't much we could recall
I guess the Lord knows what he's doin' after all
And as she walked away and I looked at my wife
And then and there I thanked the good Lord For the gifts in my life
Sometimes I thank God for unanswered prayers
Remember when you're talkin' to the man upstairs
That just because he may not answer doesn't mean he don't care
Some of God's greatest gifts are unanswered prayers
Some of God's greatest gifts are all too often unanswered...
Some of God's greatest gifts are unanswered prayers

Karaoke Invention??

In the “things that will make you feel really weird about yourself even if you are alone” department, we present the Urusakunai Kara OK! accessory for the Wii. Roughly translated, that means “Not Noisy Kara OK”.
This is a USB microphone with a large black rubber cup that reminds me of - well, I really don’t want to say. Let the jokes begin.
This unusual looking device appears to have been designed for singers who have a spouse or roommate or perhaps neighbors that are tired of hearing them belt out tunes at 2 AM. The rubber cup is supposed to muffle the singing to make it, well, less annoying to others.
On the good side, the cup is removable so you can wash out the spit and other nasties that might build up throughout an evening of energetic singing. It’s also XP and Vista compatible.
This must be an item developed almost exclusively for the Japanese market, because I think this is the first time in my life I have not been able to find an item on eBay. And darn, I really wanted one too.

Karaoke Lyric of the Week

Karaoke Lyric of the Week
ROSE GARDEN
(as performed by Lynn Anderson)

I beg your pardon, I never promised you a rose garden.
Along with the sunshine, There's gotta be a little rain sometimes.
When you take, you gotta give, so live and let live, Or let go.
I beg your pardon, I never promised you a rose garden.
I could promise you things like big diamond rings, But you don't find roses growin' on stalks of clover. So you better think it over.
Well, if sweet-talkin' you could make it come true, I would give you the world right now on a silver platter, But what would it matter?
So smile for a while and let's be jolly:Love shouldn't be so melancholy.
Come along and share the good times while we can.
I beg your pardon, I never promised you a rose garden.
Along with the sunshine, There's gotta be a little rain sometimes.
Instrumental break.
I beg your pardon, I never promised you a rose garden.
I could sing you a tune or promise you the moon, But if that's what it takes to hold you,
I'd just as soon let you go, but there's one thing I want you to know.
You better look before you leap, still waters run deep,
And there won't always be someone there to pull you out,
And you know what I'm talkin' about.
So smile for a while and let's be jolly:Love shouldn't be so melancholy.
Come along and share the good times while we can.
I beg your pardon, I never promised you a rose garden.
Along with the sunshine, There's gotta be a little rain sometimes.
Oh I beg your pardon,
I never promised you a rose garden.

Last Weekends Shows

TGIK was busy all last weekend, with 2 nights of open singing, and two private parties. Friday night was very busy at the VFW, but on Saturday night at the Legion, we only had a handful of singers.

On Friday night the VFW once again sold its Summer Foods, and made lots of money. The 50/50 drawing was won by Deb Crump. We had a heavy singing roation all night including Pat, Diane, Dee, Maggie, Deb, Jeff, Bobbie, Lisa, Laura, Bob, Deryk, Sandra, Robert, Penny, Don, Myself, and Rosie.

Dee celebrated her birthday, and Robert Crump celebrated his 21'st birthday! They had loads of fun and drinks.. LOL.

Song highlights included: "White Horse" by Lisa, "Don't Be Cruel" by Diane, "The Riddle" by Deryk, "Bleeding Love" by Laura, "Remember When" by Pat, "Just Like A Woman" by Bob,
and "Whiskey Girl" by Jeff.

On Saturday night at the American Legion, we had only 10 singers with a smaller crowd than usual. It's hard playing there the night after they already had karaoke, but in any event, it was still much fun and the music was fantastic!

Some song highlights from Saturday include "Forever In Blue Jeans" by Rob, "Love Shack" by Rob & Elizabeth, "Please Mr Please" by Nicole, "Rockin' Me" by Bobbie, and "Losing My Religion" by Doc Pete.

Hope to see everyone at the next open mic night, which is July 3 at the Watertown Legion. Hope the holiday doesn't damper our attendance. :)

Karaoke Lyric of the Week

Karaoke Lyric of the Week
FREE & EASY DOWN THE ROAD I GO
(as performed by Dierks Bentley)
Pair of boots and a sack of clothes
Free and easy down the road I go
Hangin' memories on the high line poles
Free and easy down the road I go
Free and easy down the road I go
Huh
Ragweed rockin' on the radio
Free and easy down the road I go
I keep rollin' like Tim's banjo
Free and easy down the road I go
Got the sun shinin' on me like a big spotlight
So I know everything's going to be all right
Never know where the wind might blow
Free and easy down the road I go
Livin life like a Sunday stroll
Free and easy down the road I go
Free and easy down the road I go
If you only get to go around one time
Just sit back and try to enjoy the ride
I might make a million or wind up broke
Free and easy down the road I go
Can't take it with you when you go
Free and easy down the road I go
Someday I know it's gonna take me home
Free and easy down the road I go
Free and easy down the road I go
Free and easy down the road I go
